MOLD REMOVAL
IS ABOUT MORE THAN YOUR HOME

SOUTHINGTON MOLD REMEDIATION & REMOVAL

Our goal is to protect families in Southington and the rest of central Connecticut from the dangers that mold presents to both their homes and their health. We do that without using harmful chemicals that may remove one threat but cause another. Our mold remediation process is 100% natural, which gives our customers the peace of mind that can only come from having a Healthy Home.

Things are not always as they seem. This hardwood floor looked perfectly clean until the removal of a threshold revealed a big surprise.

Does my home have mold?

Almost certainly! It's nearly impossible to keep mold spores from getting into your home, but they can't grow (and become dangerous) without moisture. Indoor dampness is what leads to a problem.

How do I know if I have a mold problem?

If you suspect there might be an issue, just call us and make an appointment. Our crew will make a FREE inspection of your home and perform testing, which will determine the level of toxic mold spores (if any) and what to do next.

What can I do about it?

It starts with taking action. This won't disappear on its own. The moisture source must first be identified and in some way resolved. The area(s) must then be thoroughly inspected to ensure mold removal is comprehensive.

How can I be sure mold cleanup worked?

Our work isn't done until your home is safe. Follow-up testing is conducted to be sure air quality is what it should be in a Healthy Home. And if it isn't, we'll keep cleaning until we get you there – no matter how long it takes!

Southington Mold Removal stops indoor mold growth

Some household issues are easily detected and can be eliminated with a store-bought spray. But if you've had water leak into your basement or crawl space – or a significant spill from a toilet or washer – there could be toxic mold spores in your home that you can't see. And visible water isn't the only danger. The Southington area in central Connecticut has days with high humidity, and if your home doesn't have proper air circulation and ventilation, that can promote mold growth, as well. A home doesn't need to be completely neglected to develop problems. It can happen in a well-cared-for home if the residents don't understand the risks associated with humidity, condensation and not completely drying out certain surfaces after water spills.
But we can help! Our experts will quickly assess the situation for you. If necessary, we can perform testing (often within a day) and get you those results. If action is required, we'll book your appointment for mold removal as soon as possible. And we'll do it with our plant-based cleaners that protect both your family and your home. In some cases, we might suspect that mold spores are spreading through your ventilation/air conditioning system, and we'll recommend that an HVAC expert also get involved. There's too much at stake to take risks. Mold is a nuisance, but don't let it become worse than that. If you're in the Southington area, call today and let us see if your home has a mold problem. If so, we'll remove it, and you can get back to living a healthy life!

What is mold?

Since the majority of us have forgotten almost everything we learned in science classes, here's a refresher. Mold is a fungus, and it's all around us. In nature, it's essential to the ecosystem and plays an important role in decomposition of organic matter.

In our homes and other buildings, however, we don't want decay. And we certainly don't want airborne mold spores getting into our lungs. But it's basically impossible to keep it from getting indoors, because those mold spores routinely hitch rides on our clothing and our pets.

So, since this fungus is present almost everywhere, why hasn't it destroyed our cities and half the population by now? The answer is water. It's the activating agent for mold growth, and it's obviously not all over our floors, walls and ceilings. But that doesn't mean water never gets into those places. It occasionally leaks in from the outside (or spills out of something inside), and if we don't do a good job of keeping our homes dry, fungal growth ensues.

Because of indoor mold growth (often unseen), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that the air inside of buildings could be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air! And if another estimate is also accurate – that we spend around 90 percent of our time indoors – then there's good reason to be concerned about this.

What is mold remediation?
Remediation is the process of remedying a situation. Mold remediation, therefore, is the process of changing and correcting the factors that allowed the fungus to spread throughout your home. It begins with inspection and testing and also includes the elimination of moisture (and its source) that stimulated the mold growth. Then it involves physical mold removal, followed by ventilating and purifying the air in your home and, finally, retesting to be certain the job was successful. In other words, "removal" is not synonymous with "remediation." It's just the most visible part of the remediation process.

Be sure you know what products are involved in mold remediation by any company you hire. Don't trade one problem for another. If someone removes mold from your home but replaces it with harmful chemicals, they've only created a new problem... one you can't see. "Cleaning" is supposed to be an improvement. Our mold remediation procedures were created with your health in mind, and our products are all plant based - safe for everyone in your home to breathe, pets included!

Why mold remediation is important

Connecticut consistently ranks around 10th in the United States in average annual rainfall, so the Southington area has a climate that promotes mold growth. When it starts spreading inside a home, it can often be seen... or at least smelled. But it isn't always visible. Some families only discover it because mold will produce allergens that result in someone having a reaction. And in extreme cases, air quality can reach highly toxic levels before it starts to impact people. Because women and children generally have smaller lung capacity, they typically experience mold-related health problems sooner than men.

The category most commonly referenced as a source of illnesses is "black mold." Multiple fungi fall under this description, and they are, not surprisingly, recognizable by their color. Although one type is best known for producing toxic substances, medical experts disagree on whether this type is significantly more dangerous or poisonous than other common varieties. Nevertheless, it's not only a health hazard, but it's also an eyesore. Our friends at Menlo Park Mold Removal have some alarming photos of what it can look like after it spreads.
Blueish-green mold growth on the attic ceilingInfestation on the upper beams and planks of your attic can ultimately cause mold damage to your roof support.
Aside from your health, there are also dangers it can present to your home. Although rare, one such concern is the deterioration of your roof structure – not from above but from below. Mold growth in attics is not unusual, because steam/humidity from bathrooms and kitchens is often pumped up there through vents. A little bit in the attic is normal and generally nothing to worry about, since mold spores aren't going to drift downward into the living areas of the house. But if ventilation from the attic to the outside is poor, the fungus could start to grow in large quantities across the attic's wooden "ceiling," which consists of the beams and plywood that support your roof.

This is not only something that could scare off a future buyer of your home, but mold damage could also become a reality, starting to eat through the wood and eventually weakening the roof's framework. This deterioration is less likely in newer homes with treated lumber, but the possibility shouldn't be disregarded. Needless to say, this could ultimately prove to be quite costly, as it would require new roofing (at least a section of it) in addition to mold remediation.  Once again, an infestation at this level is rare, but it's worth checking your attic every now and then just to be sure you can see a potential issue and address it before it gets really bad.

That smell

If you notice a musty smell when the heat or air conditioning is on (usually the AC), and turning it off for a while causes the odor to lessen, then mold and mildew might have entered your system through vents or leaky ducts. If unchecked, this can cause potentially serious health issues within your home, and you should immediately seek the help of a specialist to identify whether your ventilation system is infected. If it is, we'll find the source of the problem, fix it and then get those ducts cleaned up. In some cases, it might also be worthwhile to have an HVAC expert inspect afterward just to be sure your ventilation system is secure.

Odor removal

That musty smell of a fungus growing indoors isn't the only odor we can eliminate with our all-natural treatments. We can also help you get rid of the smells that come either from smoking inside or from pets that didn't clean up after themselves. We specialize in making air clean again, so if that's what you need, we're here to help... not only in Southington but also throughout central Connecticut.
